As the leaves begin to fall in Regent’s Park, the famous white tents rise again for two leading fixtures of the cultural calendar: Frieze London and Frieze Masters.
Taking place on October 12-16, Frieze London will feature over 160 of the world’s leading contemporary galleries, including Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth and White Cube. To the north of Regent’s Park, Frieze Masters celebrates its 10th anniversary and will feature over 120 galleries – DAG, Dickinson and Les Enluminures amongst them.
“After the historic first Asia fair in Seoul in September, we are delighted to return to where it all began,” says Claudio de Sanctis, Head of the International Private Bank and CEO of EMEA for Deutsche Bank. “Frieze London and Frieze Masters never fail to capture the creative spirit of a city that has long been at the cutting edge of contemporary culture. Next year will be our 20th year in partnership with Frieze; it’s a journey that we are delighted to continue, together with clients and friends.”
Deutsche Bank and Frieze: a partnership approaching its 20thbirthday
“Deutsche Bank has been supporting contemporary art and artists for over 40 years,” says AnnaHerrhausen, Global Head of Deutsche Bank Art & Culture. “And our enduring partnership with Frieze has been pivotal in our mission to nurture new talent, broaden perspectives and create shared experiences that bring art lovers together, both in-person and online.”
This continued aim to create unique, shared experiences is why we are delighted to be working with Shezad Dawood, a London-based artist with work spanning film, painting and sculpture, on a special commission for our lounges at this year’s London fairs. His work has appeared at the Guggenheim, Tate and LACMA, while his work ‘Leviathan’ featured at the 2017 Venice Biennale.
Artist Shezad Dawood connects oceans and outer space with new installations in the Deutsche Bank Wealth Management Lounge
Commissioned by Deutsche Bank and split across the Frieze London and Frieze Masters lounges,Shezad Dawood’s Hybrid Landscapes presents works connecting coastlines, oceans and outer space that are designed to ask pressing questions about our present and future ecosystems.
The immersive blue spaces, designed by Dawood and reminiscent of underwater worlds, feature signature neons, sculpture, Virtual Reality and new works on paper, including an Augmented Reality experience that transports Dawood’s species into the oceanic space of the lounge.
These works come together in Dawood’s multidisciplinary storytelling, itself a hybrid of fact and science fiction, to explore time, movement, the post-human, and the ways in which these themes shed light on the climate crisis, prompting us to collectively envision possible futures.
The Deutsche Bank Wealth Management Lounge: a place to connect, with sustainability at its heart
Frieze London and Frieze Masters are places that spark debate and shape conversations. For those moments when our guests want to reflect and connect, our lounges at both fairs offer the ideal venue. Throughout the week, they will also host a series of panel discussions with thought-leaders from the worlds of design, art and economics.
As ever, ensuring our lounges are sustainable remains an important focus. We have used local suppliers wherever possible and worked closely with First Climate Solutions to audit and offset the carbon footprint of our lounges.
“Hosting our guests in our exclusive lounge spaces is a privilege, but we are always mindful of minimising the environmental impact,” says Nicky West-Poole, Global Head of Central Marketing at Deutsche Bank’s International Private Bank. “So we constantly look for ways to ensure our carbon footprint is as small as possible – and that we can effectively offset any difference.”
